Elliott Routledge, also known as “FUNSKULL”, currently resides in Sydney, Austrailia. Known for his public art installations, paintings, and sculptures, he has exhibited in galleries and installed murals throughout the world.
His work exists in a balance between expressive mark making, abstract form and often word based art. Having spent a period of time practising and studying colour, his current work is reflective of how he takes this information of colour relationships and pattern choices, and treats them in a way to create bold, colourful and harmonious compositions.
The Blue Stroke series continues Elliott’s investigation into space and the environments in which paintings exist. Inspired by Ellsworth Kelly’s ideas around art and architecture, the works explore how oversized abstract forms can function as singular objects while also responding to the spaces around them. Large blue strokes, initially sketched at a small scale, are magnified and cropped across the canvas, suggesting a larger form extending beyond the boundaries of the work.
