Zona Maco 2026
Madison Gallery and RETNA present Carta de Colores, a Solo Booth in the Main Section at Zona Maco 2026.
RETNA, an American artist of Salvadoran, African-American, and Native American descent, is known for his intricate calligraphic script, which draws inspiration from ancient hieroglyphs, Gothic lettering, and street culture. His work functions like a coded language—visually arresting and deeply symbolic—aiming to connect the sacred and the contemporary. Through his unique typographic system, RETNA explores themes of power, heritage, and spiritual transcendence.
Renowned for this iconic calligraphic script that blends ancient typographies with contemporary street culture, RETNA constructs a visual language that transcends borders—linguistic, cultural, and geographic. Carta de Colores explores the synesthetic and symbolic relationships between language, color, and identity within the evolving landscape of global urban visual culture. The booth will present a curated selection of large-scale mixed media paintings and sculpture.
“Each letter I write is a translation — a bridge between silence and sound, between memory and future. Carta de Colores is not just an exhibition – It is an offering. My way of saying that color itself is a sacred alphabet, one we all can read with the eyes of the heart.” – RETNA
